This was an inaugural cruise on the Zuiderdam, the first of Holland America's new Vista ships...larger than other Holland America ships, and with more balconies. We sailed to their island in the Bahamas, Half Moon Cay, which is absolutely beautiful. Perfect, soft sand on a crescent beach.
The decor is a departure from the traditional Holland America ships. Touches of whimsy are scattered throughout...golden mermaid tails were bar stools and bright red lips were a sofa.
The entertainment was excellent with fabulous costumes by Bob Mackie, designer to Cher...and production numbers by Barry Manilow. Balconies on the ship were large enough for chairs and an ottoman.
Holland America's wonderful service and thoughtful touches remain. I predict this ship series will attract new customers for Holland America. |
